艾利·嘉道理Àilì Jiādàolǐ · 1867–1944
Baghdad-born broker (1867-1944), former Sassoon clerk, who built the Kadoorie fortune and Marble Hall in Shanghai, where he died under occupation.

Sir Elly Kadoorie (艾利·嘉道理, Àilì Jiādàolǐ) was born in Baghdad in 1867 and reached Hong Kong in 1880. He began as a clerk at E. D. Sassoon & Co., became a broker, and founded Sir Elly Kadoorie & Sons, with board seats at China Light and Power and other companies. He was made an honorary KBE in 1926. His Shanghai house, Marble Hall, is now the Children’s Palace. He died in 1944; sources disagree on the date and on whether it was in a camp or at home. The full account is in the Kadoorie family entry.
