The story

Legoland Shanghai Resort (上海乐高乐园, Shànghǎi Lègāo Lèyuán) is a Lego-themed park in Fengjing Town, Jinshan District, in the far southwest of Shanghai. It opened on 5 July 2025 as the first Legoland in mainland China, and it is operated by the British company Merlin Entertainments.

The park had a long road to its site. It was first planned for Dianshan Lake in Qingpu. On 6 November 2019, during the second China International Import Expo, Jinshan District signed an agreement with the Lego Group, Merlin Entertainments and CMC Inc. to bring it to Jinshan, and on 9 October 2020 the site in Fengjing, near Jinshan North railway station, was confirmed. Construction began on 17 November 2021, public trial operations on 20 June 2025, and the official opening followed two weeks later. English Wikipedia counts it as the fourth Legoland in Asia, after Malaysia, Japan and Korea, and the eleventh in the world.

The resort covers 318,000 square metres and has two parts: the park itself and a Lego-themed hotel with 250 themed rooms. The park is laid out as eight themed areas with more than 75 rides, shows and attractions. The two that are specific to Shanghai are a 60-metre observation tower and an area based on the Monkey King of Journey to the West, built around Lego’s Monkie Kid series. The sources do not agree on how big it is compared with other Legolands: the Wikipedia articles describe it both as the largest in the world and as the second largest.

Getting there: the park is not on the metro. It is about 1 kilometre from Jinshan North railway station, and since 10 June 2025 a loop bus with 58 runs a day has linked the station and the park. Ticket prices are set by date, with peak days costing more; check the official Legoland Shanghai site for hours and prices.
